Tom Nussbaum began his political career as an intern in Senator Robert Kennedy’s office in 1965 during Senator Kennedy’s first year in office. He had begun to work on Senator Kennedy’s campaign for President in 1968 when Senator Kennedy was assassinated in June, two months after Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated.
After receiving his degree from the George Washington University Law School, Tom came to Colorado in 1970 on a Robert F. Kennedy Fellowship to work on law suits to protect the rights of Native Americans. He has lived in Colorado since. In 1972, he was a leader in the initiative to prohibit public financing of the 1976 Winter Olympic Games. The successful campaign—known as Who Pays? Who Profits?—would have required businesses and individuals who would benefit from the Olympics to assume the burden of paying for it. In a state referendum, Colorado voters agreed that the Olympics would not be held in the state if it meant taxpayers would pay and business interests would profit.
Tom has been active in Democratic politics for many years. He was campaign manager of Federico Pena’s two successful campaigns for Mayor of Denver in 1983 and 1987. The slogan for the first campaign—Imagine A Great City—inspired the naming of Imagine A Great Election.
Sherry Seiber, also a graduate of the George Washington University Law School, was admitted to the D.C. bar in 1971 and the Colorado Bar in 1972. She served as a Public Defender in Colorado from 1972-1978, and was head of the Denver office in 1976. She has been in private practice since 1978.
In 2000, the Colorado Bar Association honored Sherry by selecting her as one of the Colorado women lawyer pioneers of the 20th Century.
In 1996, Sherry founded Pearl Street Publishing, an independent book publisher with the mission of giving voice to those “who dare to act upon their dreams.” Pearl Street Publishing has published works of poetry, fiction, and non-fiction by writers from across the United States and around the world.
Sherry also has developed TrialBriefs.com as a separate division of Pearl Street Publishing. An online journal, TrialBriefs.com analyzes current legal cases and issues of importance. In July of 2000, TrialBriefs.com began analyzing Supreme Court decisions as they impact presidential politics. The 2008 presidential election-Supreme Court analysis will be launched the first Monday of October when the Supreme Court reconvenes.

Karen DeGroot Carter is a native of Syracuse, New York, and a graduate of the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University. She has worked in corporate communications and as a freelance writer and editor for more than 20 years, and has had writings published in a wide variety of community, business, and literary publications. She’s also edited numerous projects, including full-length works published by Jossey-Bass and Pearl Street Publishing. Her first novel, One Sister’s Song, was published by Pearl Street Publishing in 2002 and reissued in 2004.
